    Sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) has become increasingly recognised in adults in recent years but it has been reported relatively rarely in children. A two-part UK study of deaths in children with epilepsy (Victoria Nesbitt and colleagues. Dev Med Child Neurol 2012;54:612–17; see also Commentary, ibid; 586–7) has confirmed the rarity of SUDEP and that most children with epilepsy who die do so from the underlying cause of the epilepsy and not from the seizures.
